Information Overload
I’ve always enjoyed learning new skills, tips & tricks when it comes to web design & development. I don’t put nearly as much time as I’d like to towards learning, but I try my best to keep my resources up to scratch!
There are literally tens of thousands of design blogs & sites out there that publish tips, tricks, tutorials, articles & other interesting information. Some of these blogs are really good, some are really poor. The really good ones have been added to my RSS reader (Google Reader if you’re interested!).
Another really good source of links & reading material is Twitter. The designers & folk that I follow tweet some really nice articles. Lots of links to read on a daily basis so the interesting ones are favourited for future reading.
And then there’s delicious. Lots of links to be found on there too! All the interesting links are then assigned a “to read” tag for me to go back to in the future and read when I get time.
The problem being, I dont have the time.
As I type this, I’ve got 1600+ links favourited via twitter, over 1000+ unread articles on my google Reader (those who use it know that once about 1000 unread items, it doesn’t display the full figure) and nearly 900 on delicious tagged “to read”.
That’s over 3500 articles pending.
Bugger.
Some might say clear the lot & start again, however I don’t want to do that in case I miss some really interesting articles or some great discussion!
I think it’s time to get ruthless!
How do you keep track of the links & articles you want to read? Do you bookmark them on delicious? do you favourite them on twitter? Do you read them there & then?
I’m intrigued to find out how others cope with information overload!
